University of Shkoder "Luigj Gurakuqi"

University of Shkoder “Luigj Gurakuqi” is one of the most important institutions and the biggest center of education, scientific research, and culture of Northern Albania. It was first established as High Pedagogical Institute (the first High Educational School after that of Tirana) on 02.10.1957 based on the wonderful traditions of a prosperous country. It changed and developed over the years. Now the University of Shkodra “Luigj Gurakuqi” with an over 65 years’ experience has 6 Faculties and 21 Departments.  

 

The University of Shkoder offers the following study programs in different fields of study: 26 Bachelor study programs; 16 Masters of Science; 14 Professional Masters: PhD in Albanian Studies and Sustainable Economy.

PhD. Brikene Dionizi

University of Shkoder “Luigj Gurakuqi”, Economic Faculty, Lecturer

 

I teach Management, Entrepreneurship and Quality Management. As an experienced lecturer I aim to inspire and empower students, and to equip them with the skills they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving business landscape.

 

My research is focused on business models that support sustainability and incorporate the circular economy concept. Through identifying and promoting sustainable practices, my goal is to make a positive impact on both the business and the environment.

 

My involvement in two research teams, Fairwork Project and “Open Western Balkan Collaboratory on Online Platforms (financed by Western Balkans Fund ), dedicated to platform work has provided me with valuable insights into the emerging world of gig economy and its implications in the labor market.

 

I was the project coordinator for the CBHI Erasmus+ Project USIA- University to Society Innomediaries in Albania , and now the project manager for the CBHE Erasmus+ Project U2SID-University to Society Collaborations for Inclusive Digital Transformation in the Western Balkans . On my work on these two projects, I had the privilege of collaborating with national and international partners, and diverse stakeholders.

Dr. Bresena Kopliku

University of Shkodra, Department of Geography, Lecturer/Researcher/Head of Department

 

Dr. Bresena Kopliku is a Researcher and Lecturer at the Department of Geography University of Shkodra, Albania where she is currently the Head of Department. Her research interests relate to migration and its diverse typologies, return migration, transnationalism and diaspora. In 2014, she earned her doctor degree, in Human Geography from the Department of Geography, University of Tirana, after the presentation of the thesis: Migration and Population Change in Shkodra Region. Migration is her main area of expertise, especially on the regional level. She has been a visiting scholar at St Hilda’s College, Oxford University and attended trainings and research in Central European University (Hungary), Klagenfurt University (Austria), DIAnet International School (Italy) etc. She has been a key note speaker in some workshops such as in the Interdisciplinary Research Unit on Migration, Universita degli Studi di Firenze among others. Based on her research experience she has also collaborated as external expert of migration issues and local consultant with several international organizations operating in Albania such as GIZ, SWISSCONTACT, USAID etc. She has published under Peter Lang AG, Springer Nature, Emerald Publishing etc.  Her current research interests lie on migration and development, digital platforms economy and migration, labour migration and working conditions etc.

PhD. Erjola Barbullushi

University of Shkoder “Luigj Gurakuqi”, Economic Faculty, Lecturer

 

Lecturer at the Department of Finance-Accounting at the Faculty of Economics in University of Shkodra since 2005. Author of several scientific publications in the field of economics, finance and accounting and speaker at national and international scientific conferences in Poland, Hungary, Italy, USA, Romania, Greece etc.

 

She focuses her scientific interests on ESG, economic performance, internationalization of SME and investments.  Lecturer of several open lessons on behalf of mobility teaching programs, fostering the exchange of knowledge and ideas.

PhD. Kleida Heta

Lecturer of Principles of Finance, International Financial Management, Financial Management, Portfolio Management and Financial Modeling. Program Coordinator for bachelor program of Finance and Accounting. Research areas: International Finance, Corporate Finance and Real Estate.

PhD. Merise Rukaj

University of Shkoder “Luigj Gurakuqi”, Faculty of Law, Lecturer

 

Teaching Intellectual Property, European Private Law. Doctor of sciences in European law. She has published several papers in national and international journals, has presented papers in national and international scientific conferences and has been part of various projects in partnership between the University of Shkodra "Luigj Gurakuqi" and prestigious European universities.

Prof. Dr. Nertila Ljarja

Head of History Department - Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Shkodra “Luigj Gurakuqi”.

 

I teach , Modern history of Europe and the USA, Philosophy of history and Museology. The main objectives in my 25-year work as a teacher is to train a new generation of professional historians. My field of research is mainly related to the history of Albania during the communist period and is focused on the persecution of the Albanian Catholic clergy. I was part of the Erasmus+ Project USIA- University to Society Innomediaries in Albania  as a researcher and designer of one of the packages of this project. This project has been a very valuable experience, through which I had the privilege of collaborating with national and international partners, and diverse stakeholders.

PhD. Zamira Shkreli

Center for Albanian Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences.

Scientific Researcher, Lecturer

 

Since 2013, I have been working as a scientific researcher at the Center for Albanian Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Shkodra "Luigj Gurakuqi". I am also a lecturer at the Department of Linguistics, as head of the Didactics of the Albanian language, Language Culture and Academic Writing courses.

I am part of the working group for the publications of the works published by this research center: "Historical Dictionary of the Albanian Language" by prof. dr. Kolë Ashtës, no. 5, 6 and 7, as well as I have given my help in the publication of the column "Albanian Studies" no. 25-30. I have also been a member of the organizing boards of the conferences organized by this scientific research center.

I am the author of many articles and papers published in national and international magazines.

As from 2020, I am the director of the Center for Albanian Studies.
